God Spoke, Now What?

POV: You just got a word from the Lord over your life. You feel empowered—ready to step into what God has spoken. But there’s one problem… you have no idea how to actually take that next step of obedience. You heard God speak—now what? In this blog, we’re diving into three things: how God speaks, what the enemy tries to do against that word, and how you can walk in obedience to what He’s said.

Our generation—Gen Z—is known for being both inspired and apathetic. We’re quick to catch a vision, to feel stirred by something—especially if it’s movement-based, trendy, or emotionally charged. But often, we stop there. We get that initial adrenaline rush, but never actually take the step to do the thing we felt inspired by.

So how do we break that cycle? How do we move from being inspired to actually taking action? Let’s take a look at Moses.

The Red Sea Moment

Moses—the guy in the Old Testament who was used by God to split the Red Sea in half. An entire nation walked through it on dry ground, escaping from the enemy that once held them captive. God literally used him to split a sea. When you read that story, doesn’t it stir something in you? Maybe you think, “Woah! Lord, send me to split the sea and save nations!”

It’s inspiring, right? God does want to use us to reach nations. He wants to move with us and through us. But before the miracle, before the sea parted, there was something else that had to happen first—obedience.

The Burning Bush Moment

Before the Red Sea could ever part, there had to be a yes. Moses was a Hebrew man working an Egyptian job—until he ran away after killing an Egyptian. He was insecure, afraid, wanted for murder, and far from bold. Not exactly the guy you’d expect God to use to lead a nation and split a sea. Forty years after Moses ran away from Egypt, he had an encounter with God.

In the middle of the wilderness, Moses experienced the fear of the Lord—seeing His holiness and worthiness through a bush that burned with fire yet wasn’t consumed. From that flame

came the voice of God. In that holy moment, God gave Moses a clear instruction: go back to Egypt—the very place he fled from—and lead His people, the Hebrews, out of slavery.

Moses wrestled with God. He questioned his own ability, his past, and his worth. But at the end of the encounter, Moses said yes. Moses knew that obeying God could cost him everything—even his life. He was still a wanted man in Egypt, yet he chose to take the risk and obey anyway.

We have to experience a Burning Bush moment before we ever see a Red Sea moment.

God often gives us a vision—a glimpse of what could be, like the sea splitting open before us. But when we say yes to that vision, it has to be followed by action. Saying yes to God means stepping out and going

What Comes In The Way Of Obedience?

The enemy is actively fighting against the word God has spoken over your life. Aidan, our Student Communications Director here at YWAM Lancaster, says that one of the biggest giants people face when trying to obey God is the lies of the enemy—excuses and doubt. Aidan works closely with Gen Z, calling the ones who’ve said yes to the Lord—whether that’s doing a DTS or stepping into missions. His heart is to help each young person seek God for the next action step toward the calling they’ve heard.

In Moses’ story, we see that even in his Burning Bush moment, doubt shows up immediately.

“But Moses protested again, ‘What if they won’t believe me or listen to me? What if they say, ‘The Lord never appeared to you?’”

Exodus 4:1

“But Moses pleaded with the Lord, ‘O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though You have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.’”

Exodus 4:10

Even while standing before the presence of God, Moses wrestled with insecurity and fear. We see it over and over again—God speaks, and then the enemy rushes in with lies. We start

making excuses for why we can’t obey, and we begin to doubt the power of God. What Aidan notices in our generation—the way the enemy attacks with lies, excuses, and doubt—is the same pattern we see in Moses’ story.

How Do We Fight Doubt, Lies and Excuses to Obey God?

The first step is to listen. When the Lord speaks into your life, be quick to quiet your heart and listen. Most of the time, you’ll know it’s God because it’s not something you would’ve just thought up on your own. Moses definitely wasn’t dreaming about going back to the place where he was wanted for murder to lead a nation out of slavery—but he listened.

And when God speaks—write it down. It’s important to record what He says so you don’t forget it or reshape His word into something more comfortable later on.

The second step in obeying God is to find community. You need people who will walk with you as you learn to obey what God has spoken. That looks like getting connected to a ministry, church, or mentor who can guide you in obedience and help you stay faithful to what God said.

If the Lord is calling you to be a missionary to the nations, one of the best next steps is to connect with a YWAM base and do a Discipleship Training School (DTS) It’s a powerful way to grow in community, deepen your relationship with God, and take real steps toward the calling He’s placed on your life.

The third step is simple: obey. If God tells you to go somewhere—go. Don’t let the lies or excuses of the enemy keep you from stepping into what God has spoken. You never know what’s waiting on the other side of your yes. Moses had no idea that his obedience would lead to the Red Sea splitting open before him. So what could be on the other side of your obedience?

God wants to do something with you. He desires a real relationship with you—one where you walk together and partner with Him in what He’s doing on the earth. Ask the Lord for a Burning Bush moment—a moment of clarity about what He’s calling you to say yes to. And when He speaks… do it.

If your Burning Bush moment was the Lord stirring your heart to go into the nations—or if you simply want to seek Him more clearly about what He’s spoken—pray about doing a DTS. A

Discipleship Training School creates space to hear God’s voice clearly and helps you take real action on what He’s calling you to do. When God gives you the green light to do a DTS—obey.

Your obedience could be the start of a story that changes nations.
