The More You Know

Hello, my name is Aimee Esh! In 2021, God radically transformed my life. I had a powerful encounter with Jesus, surrendered my life to Him, and immediately felt called into missions. That fall, I completed my Discipleship Training School (DTS) here at YWAM Lancaster and have been on staff since 2022. As I serve with YWAM Lancaster, I carry a deep passion to see both children and young people encounter the Lord, experience freedom, and be equipped to GO! Looking ahead, my heart is to be sent into the unreached Muslim world—bringing the Gospel to places where Jesus has never been known. I’m so thankful that God has invited me to be part of His mission and His dreams. Thank you for joining me on this journey and helping me be a part of fulfilling the Great Commission!

I’d have to say Psalms. King David’s life is one I continue to reflect on. The way he came to God in full surrender and sacrificial worship is how I desire to walk with Jesus. I also love how God’s heart for His children is so beautifully revealed throughout this book!

My preferred Bible translation for preaching or studying is the ESV, because I feel that it’s very “to the point” and clear in its wording. When I’m spending time with Jesus in the Word, I prefer the NIV because of its beautiful and poetic phrasing.

The most exciting place I’ve visited during my time as a missionary would have to be a nation I can’t name in Central Asia (it borders Afghanistan). I was in awe of the rich history and preserved culture. The mountains were stunning, and the people were incredibly hospitable. During a home visit, the mother invited me in and taught me how to prepare a traditional meal. She was so kind and open to Jesus—it was amazing!

My journey in missions began in 2015 when I went on a trip to YWAM Juarez, Mexico, with my middle school youth group. It was there that God first called me into missions and gave me a deep heart for children and the lost to encounter His love. After four years of walking away from God, He graciously reignited that call.

In 2021, during a worship night here in Lancaster hosted by the Circuit Riders (a YWAM ministry), I encountered the Holy Spirit in a powerful way, heard the Gospel again, and rededicated my life to Jesus. That night, God reminded me of the call to be His hands and feet—and that fall, He led me to YWAM Lancaster!

I completed my DTS at YWAM Lancaster in 2022, where God laid strong spiritual foundations in my life. It was a season of deep healing, deliverance, transformation, and encountering His presence. I grew in my identity in Him, learned to hear His voice, and discovered a passion for evangelism, intercession, and pure worship.

During that season, God broke my heart for the unreached and gave me a clear sense of purpose: to know Him deeply and go wherever He calls—until He returns!

One story that comes to mind is when I was a part of leading a Bible distribution team on a trip to Colombia. I went door to door down a dirt road in a village where we were serving. At each home, I asked if they’d like a Bible and if I could share the Gospel. They were so receptive—but I’ll never forget the first time I asked someone if they had ever heard the Gospel, and they said no. It broke my heart, and at the same time filled me with joy that I got to bring them the best news of all time.

The need is great, but it is a joy to be His messenger!
