The More You Know

Hi, I’m Jimmy Sovocool, and I’m from Montgomery County, PA. I want to see young people passionately pursuing Jesus, using their gifts and talents to advance the Kingdom of God, and helping see the Great Commission fulfilled! I have a particular heart to see young men discipled and equipped to lead their families, churches, and communities well, while understanding their identity and calling in Christ.

My role at YWAM Lancaster includes leading mobilization tours around the U.S. to help Gen Z set free from bondage and catalyzed to live missional lifestyles. I also staff training schools and facilitate discipleship. Thank you for your prayers and partnership!

I love the book of Acts because it shows what the early church looked like immediately following Jesus’ ascension and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. It’s an incredibly exciting book of the Bible! I am constantly challenged by the faith, courage, boldness, and sacrifice of the early believers, and it inspires me to follow Jesus with full obedience in my own life.

I primarily use the ESV translation because it provides a word-for-word rendering of the original text, which helps me better understand what I’m trying to share with others. It’s also written in a way that is easy to read and comprehend.

The most exciting place I’ve been while serving in missions is probably the Areopagus in Athens, Greece. It was such an incredible experience to stand in the very place where the Apostle Paul stood almost 2,000 years ago while sharing the Gospel with the people of Athens!

After high school, I decided to pursue a business degree in college while also working. After graduating, I felt a strong desire to do something with purpose. I wasn’t finding satisfaction in my education or work, and I knew there was more to life than just chasing money and status.

That’s when God began speaking to me about missions. He revealed that I had been spending my time and energy building my own kingdom, while neglecting to build His Kingdom.

I completed my DTS in the spring of 2025. Even though I had been walking with the Lord for several years, I learned so much about His character, His nature, and the way He sees and loves me. As I drew near to God and allowed Him to transform me, I noticed the desires of my heart shift — from selfish pursuits to a passion for the things on God’s heart instead.

The first time I led someone to the Lord on the mission field was during my DTS outreach in Albania. My team had been facing a number of challenges, and we weren’t seeing the kind of fruit we had hoped for. But on this particular day, as we went out for evangelism, the Lord led me to talk to a young man about Jesus.

After hearing his story and the recent events leading up to our conversation, it was clear that the hand of the Lord was at work in the entire interaction. I could see how God had been orchestrating things “behind the scenes” that led to me meeting him in the park and sharing the Good News of the Gospel. He gave his life to Jesus on the spot, and it was such an incredible moment to witness the sovereign hand of God at work!
