The More You Know

Hi, my name is Tremayne McPherson, but most people here call me Trey. I was born and raised in the mountains of southwest Pennsylvania but most recently lived in upstate New York. I am serving at YWAM Lancaster because I love Jesus and want to see others come to know Him as I have over the past two years. I have also been sent as a missionary from my home church in New York. In May 2023, while visiting friends in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, I stopped by a coffee shop and met a tour team from YWAM Lancaster. I had never heard of YWAM before, so I did some research and eventually joined the Fall 2023 Discipleship Training School (DTS), followed by the Fall 2024 Catalyst Bible School (CBS). My DTS outreach took me to Thailand, and my CBS outreach to Cambodia. Through these experiences, I have developed a heart for the nations—especially Thailand—and I hope to spend more time there in the future.

My favorite book of the Bible is Psalms. There is so much in there that is applicable to a fallible human’s walk with the Lord, from the joys to the struggles and sorrows.

Hard call here. I grew up with NIV, discovered NLT and found it to be far more understandable, and then I came to YWAM and heard about ESV. My Catalyst Bible School used ESV, so I would say I’ve had the most exposure to that translation. I still like NLT for a second opinion.

This is just a fun story. On my CBS outreach to Cambodia, we had an off day at an ancient crater lake. Some of us were swimming in it and decided to swim across it, about half a mile. I had not swam that far since I was in middle school, so it was definitely a challenge, and required a few prayers along the way. Standing on solid ground on the far shore was a satisfying moment. 3. On my DTS outreach we spent two weeks at an orphanage in northern Thailand. In the mornings we cleaned their dorms and in the afternoons we hung out with the kids. I loved the work because it was meaningful and had a clear, positive impact, but I loved the kids even more. I hope to one day return to that orphanage to serve for a longer period of time.

As I mentioned in the introductory paragraph, in May 2023, I was visiting friends where I grew up in Farmington, PA. I went with two of them to the one coffee shop there and when we walked in, it was full of young people. They turned out to all be from YWAM Lancaster, out on an evangelism/mobilization tour. They ended up indirectly mobilizing me, and four and a half months later, I was at YWAM Lancaster, beginning my Discipleship Training School. It was during this school that I learned about missions and got to go to Thailand on Outreach. Now I am hoping to return to Thailand for a season or so after I spend some time serving here at YWAM Lancaster.

I completed my DTS in March of 2024. That school taught me more about missions than I knew there was to know before I started. Missions was not something I had ever really thought about or considered, but DTS opened that door for me.
